Ultra Runner Sopan Tsekov is Mr Consistent

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Monday, June 24, 2013,

Sopan Tsekov is Mr Consistent this year at the 3100 Mile Race. The last 6 days in a row he has done 62 miles on the dot (that's about 103km). Sopan hails from Bulgaria and spends time in the ski slopes outside of running. Finding motivation in the mountains is something most trail and ultra marathoner runners can relate to, but is very different to the 3100 mile course. Sopan Tsekov was 24 when he first completed the 3100 mile race, the youngest in history. I was 30 when I entered my first ...

One of the Worlds Best Ultra Running Legends

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Saturday, June 22, 2013,

Day 5 and Asprihanal lead the mileage for the first time with 71.8 miles. Unusual for the champion Finn, he is taking a while to warm up. He has won the event more than anybody.

Ashprihanal can’t weigh much more than 50 kilograms. He is very otherworldly, almost elf-like, with small chiselled features, light blonde hair and a running engine that rarely falters. His style and gait are more like a dance. He flays his arms all over the place and rocks from side to side, the floating waltz ste...

2012 - 3100 Mile Race

It's been raining again and Atmavir and Vasu are both at the same mileage after day 3 of the 3100. No biggie, there's still around 2900 miles to go.

Atmavir Spàcil from the Czech Republic is an accomplished multi-day and ultra runner, he’d completed 13 ultras and six multi-day events before his first 3100 mile race in 2007, even making it to 1085 miles (1746km) in a 1300-mile (2092km) race, which had a brutal cut-off time of 18 days. 2007 was my first race also and it was great having ano...

Day 1 2013. Photos by Abakash

The runners started their ultra, ultra, ultra marathon journey on Sunday, with plenty of rain I believe- which I dislike immensely but I will talk about some other time. Sarah Barnett is the first female Australian to ever compete.

Vasu Duzhiy has taken an early lead with 79 then 70 miles. He hails from Russia and works near the border of Siberia, cutting wood. He is super friendly with a handshake that crushes your bones.
Three things I recall about the friendly Russian from 2012. I once came ...

She is too obese to run.

Runners, I have a friend who feels she is to overweight to start running because people will stare and laugh at her.
I find it motivational when someone out of shape gets out there and gives it a go and I am sure most of us feel the same way. So... runners unite! Leave some positive comments and I will pass them on, it might give her enough inspiration, motivation and energy to get outside and give it a go. And I haven't named any names so I can't possibly get in any trouble!

Based in Austral...

Running in Hyde Park

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Wednesday, June 12, 2013,

After a long run across the Nullarbor it was nice to meet people with the torch in more greener pastures. Above is  City of Vincent Mayor,Alannah MacTiernan holding the peace torch at Hyde Park. She was great and even had the motivation to run with some of the school children present.
