Vasu and his blister

Posted by Grahak Cunningham on Wednesday, July 13, 2016,
On day 23 passing Vasu Duzhiy was passed. Apparently Vasu has a really bad blister. He got one in his first race also so I am sure he has the experience to deal with it! Apart from his blister he has the perfect body shape. Light, strong and hardened.

I spoke to Ashprihanal on the phone yesterday. He has been getting over a head cold...not something you want when you are doing 100 plus kilometers a day. He was in good spirits though and talked about climbing Mt Fuji in the winter. It was a lot...

No Pain, No Gain

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Thursday, July 4, 2013,
It is a quote thrown at us by motivational speakers, business speakers, keynote speakers, business analysts, fitness trainers, coaches and so on. In training and fitness endeavors, it’s pushing yourself to the limits or the boundaries. That is what is needed to get fitter, stronger, better. Sometimes it does hurt to extend ourselves. To get fit requires improving your current self. It doesn’t happen by remaining idle, it doesn’t necessarily happen through pain either. The 'No Pain, No ...

Some Runners Finding it Tough

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Monday, July 1, 2013,

While some runners are continuing to excel (Atmavir Spacil with another 112km or 70 miles on Day 14). Others are finding it tough. The heat is tremendous in New York in Summer and it has affected a few of the brave soldiers trying to cover 3100 miles. Australian Sarah Barnett has apparently had digestion problems and both her and Ananda Lahiri managed around 50 miles on days 12 and 13 but I am sure they will bounce back.

Ananda-Lahari is the most saintly runner on the course. No matter what ...

Ultra Runner Sopan Tsekov is Mr Consistent

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Monday, June 24, 2013,

Sopan Tsekov is Mr Consistent this year at the 3100 Mile Race. The last 6 days in a row he has done 62 miles on the dot (that's about 103km). Sopan hails from Bulgaria and spends time in the ski slopes outside of running. Finding motivation in the mountains is something most trail and ultra marathoner runners can relate to, but is very different to the 3100 mile course. Sopan Tsekov was 24 when he first completed the 3100 mile race, the youngest in history. I was 30 when I entered my first ...

Pioneers are Motivational

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Thursday, April 25, 2013,
When a pioneer does something, it always makes it easier for others to follow. They motivate the rest of us. After Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile in 1954, the record was rapidly improved by other runners. Previously, like the sound barrier it was considered impossible to break. Once one person went under the four minutes the running community knew it could be done. It will be the same for the sub-two hour marathon when it happens. Watching someone set a benchmark inspires the worl...

The Self Transcendence 3100 mile race

Posted by grahak777 grahak777 on Thursday, October 25, 2012,

Founded in 1997 by fitness guru Sri Chinmoy to exemplify the endless possibilities of the human spirit, the Self-Transcendence 3100-Mile Race is held every year on a concrete footpath around an 883 metre block in Queens, New York. It is the world’s longest and most grueling foot race. Runners are given 18 hours a day, from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, for 51 days, to run a minimum of 60 miles a day (96.6km) to complete the distance. This involves ci...
