Getting Motivated for the 3100

I have been pounding the pavements lately,  training to compete in the longest certified road race in the world - the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race. In the race, runners must complete 5649 loops of an 883 metre footpath around a New York school block and must deal with fatigue, boredom, humidity and temperatures hovering around 40 degrees. Over Training and Work Life Balance

Work stress, no work life balance and over training have similar symptoms and causes. Working or working out to long. Monotonous surrounds. Boredom. Illness or injuries. You will lack enthusiasm and feel very run down. The situation is like a car battery. You can run your lights for a while without your engine running so long as you recharge the battery. However to long without a recharge and the battery dies and you can't run the lights.

Training Tip

Less punishing than ice baths submerging yourself in water can aid your recovery after a long run. I mainly use the ocean. The Indian Ocean off the coast is usually cool all year round and it definitely helps relieve the legs of soreness. In Australia many professional rugby, football and cricket teams will have a beach session followed by a swim to aid recovery after a big game or hard training.
